ok, i found a slight petrol leak, which is now fixed, then i noticed the car was firing on 3. it must have been doing it since i swapped the engine over last week (well thats when it was on the road), so i done the following;

remove the injector plug to help locate which cylinder was at fault.

turns out it was number 4 as when that was removed no change to the running of the engine.

i took the spark plug out but it was wet with petrol (i cant understand that bit going by the when i removed the loom plug to the 4th inj there was no change.

so i swapped that plug and all leads...

no change, still firing on 3.

so i checked the injector loom plug wires all matched - 4 was different, one of the wires had blue in it, so i swapped that over with the one thats just under it that goes into the head as it seems they were both plugged in wrong

so now all injectors have the right loom plugs and it fires on 4.


but the misfire happens when i drive. if i accelerate slowly it will go through the whole rev range without a hickup, but if i try to accelerate quickly the car judders while accelerating - it didnt do this when it was running on 3 though

any ideas??

have you tried it without the MAF plugged in?

if it is that, that damn thing worked whe my fez was on the road

try giving the little prob/coil looking thing a clean on the MAF as that might be slightly dirty

ill give it a lean and try unplugging it later but i doubt it will be that as the problem didnt seem to exist when it was firing on 3, strange one. The only things that have changed are the 2 loom plugs i swapped over to correct it and obviously now firing on 4

if spark plug was covered in fuel you should really replace it, it'll probably be shafted.
new plugs, give it a bit of spirited driving, see how you get on.

i had a spare plug laying about that was still in its box so i put that in the problem piston, so thats been changed, i will grab another 3 tonight to see if it makes any difference. It idles smooth as anything, and pulls really well if i dont try to accellerate to aggressively. My first though was the tps may be shafted but it doesnt explain why the problem didnt exist when it fired on 3

just thought i would bump this with an update as i havent been able to get on here for a while. Ive swapped the plugs over, cleaned the maf and that didnt seem to help. So i took one of the loom plugs off that i switched when the problem started happening and ot seems to have cured it, well atleast below 4k, after that it hesitates and seems to kick out a slight bit of smoke. What does the loom plug at the top right of the head connect to, i know what it goes onto but what is it? And to make sure its the right plug, what colour are the wires to the plug?
