car failed on these points. (carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive) (lambda reading after 2nd fast ilde outside limits) mot guy said they need to inspect it more using computer on ecu coz it might be fault with ecu. The cat seems to be original and lambda, so cud this be the problem?? cant see a fault with ecu engine runs very smooth. help needed 2 weeks to sort this out thanks!!

sorry about the bad news buddy, at least its nothing too serious tho! before you start repacing bit imo i'd get it hooked up to the diag machine and have a look at what fault codes are showing up, dont want to be replacing bits willy nilly when they dont need to be replaced other than that my first port of call would be the lambda sensor as that could be faulty when was it last serviced? what i use to do for mine was take my inlet pipe off and spray carb cleaner on and into my TB to clean all the black sute and crap off, might not do alot but every little bit helps  or it could be a sensor playing up causing it to over fuel |

thanks for advice, im getting it plugged into diognostics 2moz morning £45. was looking on web for new cat and lambda sensor just incase i have to get that. found a sight that does brandnew cat for £50. and sensor for £30 so not to bad if i got to get that. my only worry is if its the ecu. but i dont get it the car idles fine drives smooth plenty of power so cant see a issue with that

imo i think its either going to be the cat or your lambdad or both i think i have my 1.6 ecu you can have for free, just cover the postage cost  will look for it tongiht

When my 1.1 mk3 failed an MOT on emissions, the garage put some engine cleaning stuff in it called forte and that sorted it. They said that any sort of petrol additive like redex, for example, would do the trick too. Put some in and give the car a burn along a motorway and it would clean the engine up, improving the emissions. Also, as terry said, lambda sensor renewal also!

i had the same on my mot sheet as well as other thing's but funds ran out and now all i need to do is sort out the same problem as this could it be corsed because my MAF was blocked at the time and it was just cleaned out about 4 miles before the mot so could the ecu be over fuleing still corsing this? |

guy got results back from computer. came up as faulty lamda, so replacing that then havin a pre emissions check to see if its fixed. cud still be cat alswell find out monday

Had the retest done with new lambda and it passed yee haa, i can breath for a year now. going to mock up a bit of straight pipe now to make decat might as well
