Hey guys i'm new to the forum so hi!
I'm wondering if i can pick your brains. I've just purchased a 94 fiesta si 1.6i(zetec) which has been sitting stationary for a year as part of a project i'm undertaking for charity with some friends (rally to spain). when checking over the car everything seems pretty good untill you get underneath and there is a nasty oil leak. The leak seems to be coming from just under the manifold on the right hand side if you are looking in the top of the engine bay. The oil seems to be leaking mainly when the car is running but drips slightly afterwards and without removing the top half of the block or removing the manifold its hard to get to. Basically the piece that is leaking has a pipe connected to it about 1cm accross with what looks like a metal sheild covering it and is situated next to a small switch (connection) possibly oil pressure switch?? if you need a pic i can get one not a problem, but apart from the leak the car fired up first time with a new battery after sitting stationary for 12 months, amazing!!

thanks for your time,

Matty

Hi there will, the leak is coming from the right hand side of the exhaust manifold and just underneath it. as you can see in this pic the oil has leaked all over the top of the gearbox housing aswell. I have disconnected the pipe and switch for the picture and as you can see the leak is coming from behind that small sheild where the pipe is usually connected. any ideas what it may be and whats involved in fixing/replacing it. this is the link for the pic: http://i701.photobucket.com/albums/ww12/matty_smash/Photo0008.jpg

cheers m8, matty

looks like the crankcase breather is leaking, if its coming from behind it and not the pipe split? the little box the pipe goes into is held on with i think a 6mm bolt with a paper type gasket, may be just loose or gasket split shouldnt be a big problem to sort

cool, thanks very much for your advice i have the day off tomorrow so i'm going to have a bash at it. one more question, is it straight forward enough to remove the manifold because thats the only way i can see of getting anywhere near close to it. To remove the manifold the exhaust downpipe will have to come off aswell which has some springs i can see holding it together, are they easy to remove and replace. cheers, matty

I would say looking at that photo your one way crank breather valve is missing...that hole should have a valve in it which should connect to that pipe sitting next to it which travels from the inlet breather...technically it should be making a slight whistling noise as well as the vacuum is open. I may be way of but it just looks like that to me
