Haynes manual is my best advise ![]() Tools.. various sockets and spanners. Lots of patience, and time. Check, re-check, and check again, then check once more when done to make sure its all perfect as you dont want it to be a tooth out when it starts up! Or loose! Not sure on price of the cambelt, but aux' belt is only a couple of quid. Might aswell do all the belts in that area while your at it, aux and alternator. New tensioner too. All in all, shouldnt be too much. Gen ford parts are best (cam belt and tensioner) aux/alt belt can be got elsewhere. |

cambelt is quite an easy job TBH. it's getting the bloody plastic covers off thats a pain in the arse! here's a quick guide to doing it: set engine to TDC using notch in bottom pulley lined up with raised mark on sump remove aux belt using 14mm spanner on tensioner remove top cambelt cover remove rocker cover and fit cam locking tool into back of cams, you may need to turn engine over by hand slightly(use 19mm spanner on bottom pulley, turning clockwise) support engine (ie bit of wood on top of jack on sump) this is to allow you to lower/raise the engine to get to different parts loosen both front and back engine mounts, bear in mind there's a bolt that needs removing for the back engine mount that you need to access through drivers side front wheel just behiind the suspension strut remove bottom pulley using 19mm socket whilst ensuring engine does not turn. you should notice that the woodruff key is at the top remove water pump pulley using 8mm spanner on the 4 bolts remove cambelt tensioner remove cambelt make sure you look at the path the belt takes. remove idler pulleys for cambelt fit new idler pulleys slide bottom pulley on to ensure bottom end still TDC then remove fit new cambelt fit new tensioner tension belt to satisfactory tension remove cam locking tool turn engine over one turn clockwise by hand, ensure that engine returns to TDC at top and bottom by checking the marks on pulley line up and the cam locking tool fit's in the back of the cams. this is a must! refit and secure bottom pulley refit plastic covers apart from top one refit water pump pulley fit new aux belt refit the engine to it's mounts once again, turn engine over by hand ensure that it returns to TDC at top and bottom of engine refit rocker cover ensuring cam locking tool is removed, good idea to use a new rocker cover gasket too. job done. i'd advise to buy a haynes manual as that will help you loads. |
