i removed the drive shafts from mine and dropped the gearbox and cradle from the bottom and then lifted the engine out the top with the bonnet removed

Hey im new to the forums and i've been reading the guides on the 2 litre conversion and since my si has blown the head gasket i have decided to give it a go i've basically unplugged everything and got the engine ready to unbolt out but just wanted to know the best way to take it out Should I: A) take the engine out from the top leaving the gearbox and driveshafts in (not sure if this is an option due to clearance for the flywheel) B) remove the driveshafts and take the engine and gearbox out as a whole from the top C) drop the engine and gearbox from the bottom leaving it on the subframe Im confident i can do everything else to finish the conversion successfully im just stuck at this point thanks |

I disconnected the driveshafts and dropped the engine and gearbox as one out the bottom:

cheers for the pic dave that way looks abit easier, liking the axle stand spacers  has anyone done it any other way? |

Cheers! Best way imo  You can also do it by jacking only the front end up and leave the back end on the ground

due to the size of the head on the zetec it's always easiest dropping the engine+box on the floor and lifting the car. |

When i did the rs1800 conversion, i dropped the gear box on the floor and lifted the engine out the top, had a couple of axle stands to life the car up so i could pop the drive shafts out, disconnected the power steering all hoses. and engine loom took the fan out and got a couple of boys to tilt the engine, whilst i pumped the crane up. not forgetting to removing the bonnet of course as mentioned above easy peasy.   i think it took about 2 hours to get the engine out from start to Finnish. screw taking it out the bottom did the same on a mk4 fiesta, on a puma the engine comes out the bottom much easier. |

when i done mine, i done it the 'real man way' scaffold bar, old seat belt, lift it in and out with 3 people, i find it quicker getting everything in the right place after on un-bolting the mounts and gubbins the engine was out in 20 mins, took prob an hour to get it back in but thats just cos we had to mess about with jacks to get the flywheel at the right angle to get in the bell housing
