Question...

If I was to replace all the locks on my car, would I have to use another mk3 set or would a mk4 locking kit work? (doesn't need to be central locking)

The MK4 ones apart from the bootlid lock should fit.. they seem to be the same :)

Just do what I did.. scrapyard.. and pay for them in your pocket ;)
