Well basically when i went ot get my tyres fitted the guy said i should put one of the wheels on the back to stop steering vibrations as it needed quite a lot of weights to balance it, i asked him why this was and he said it could have hit a pothole at some time and he could see some ever so slight wobble(or somethign along them lines) when he put it on the balancer, i then asked if it was ok though and he said yeh just put it on the back though to make sure. I want to ask all you brainy people though after what he said i'm guessing that means its ok and not a fubared wheel and needs chucking away? I doubt he would put the tyre on if it was damaged as wouldn't want anything to do with it? Forgot to add, they're all on now and its been fine so far with no wobbling or vibrations |

Ive had this before, where the wheel may be ever so slightly buckeled and the tyre fitter could not get the balancing perfect.. so you fit it to the back of the car because if on the front you may feel the vibrations and effect steering etc They wouldnt fit a tyre to a wheel that was nackered.. and for it to be nackered it would need to be really bent or cracked So I wouldnt worry about it

I had one of my alloys cracked not so long back thanks to a rather large pothole. Luckily though, it was repairable so took it to a bloke called Sev (quite big in the Ford circles for aluminium fabrication) and he angle grinded the cracks out and rewelded it. The lads at the tyre centre didn't think it would be ok but were very surprised when it was only 5 out on the balancer. Basically, if this had happened to one of your wheels, but was repaired badly, that may be why it's so far out. Inspect the wheel to see if there's any evidence of it having repair work done.

no evidence of repair work mate....he said he managed to get it balanced....but it was just the fact it had so many weights in one corner that i was advised to put it on the back Guessing its fine then given what paul said and the fact i am having no problems with it, just thought i'd check thats all, Cheers

i could also be that the boke doing it didnt have it 100% on the balancer machiene correctly as ive had this before and sometime you just need to remove the wheel turn it round a lil bit and refit it to the machiene. id have the tyre removed and then the wheel balanced to see what the reading is then and id do it with a different company, im not sayin the bloke is shit at his job or anything is just that everyone makes mistakes its best to double check it before you start to spend money. |

i'm not gonna bother spending any money with it as paul says it could just be slightly buckled what also put my mind at rest is at work on saturday on of the guys was fitting a tyre and couldnt it kept out balancing no matter hwat he did to it, in the end he got it 5 out and had to leave it at that, i did ask him and he said it should be fne leaving it like that as its such a small amount mine arent vibrating or anything so like paul says...probably just ever so slightly dodgy which is not uncommon |
