if you dont want to splash out cash you have 2 options that i can think of:
1. find the nearest custom exhaust place, powerflow are the normal ones around, go down and ask for a piece of pipe however long with a diamter to fit the filter and the other to the same size as your plastic one then join the pipe to plastic pipe with original rubber hose. will propably cost you £5 max, i had a custom adapter peice made up for the rs2000 engine when i put in into my mk4 and they did it for just the labour charge so were very reasonable and the piece will polish up quite nicely as powerflow only use stainless pipe
2. the more pikey option, cut the normal rubber airbox pipe that goes from the plastic cross over to the airbox, find a suitable metal or plastic ring that will fit inside the air filter hole (old wheel bearing casing from a big truck or like so may work) then put the hose you have cut to size into a pot of boiling water let it warm up and get stretching over it! may not stretch 70mm but is worth a try, ive never used car specific air filters i seem to aquire them and then make them fit somehow.
3. the propper pikey way of doing it, cut your original hose into 1 inch thick rings, then cut them so that its no more a solid ring its a ring with a cut in it, the place over plastic pipe and wrap round with insulation tape, repeat whole procedure with another ring untill the desired width is achieved.
last way is propper pikey though and wouldnt recomend it but it has got me out of trouble in the past when ive needed and air filter and have only had cones available, come to think of it ive had to do that with the last 2 engines at first as i havent got any space for an airbox.
hope this helps
