Si's are either 1.4 8v's or 1.6 16v zetec's the only 2 1800 fiesta's are the 1.8 16v xr2i and the rs1800

Hi I have been told to get a fiesta Si 1800 BC type gear box, higher fist gear and a more suitable final drive got one from a scrap yard, they said this is an 1800. using a spare clutch plate and tipex marks i get about three point eight revolutions to one on the drive shafts. this may well be a Si 1800 box but how do i prove it before i have it renovated, new seals etc, can any one help with any data about the gears and final drive ratios, or any ID marks. thanks andy |

I havent got the number with me now, but next time I am down the yard I can check my RS1800 for the number. Not got exact ratio's but all I can say is that it'll do more top end than an si box (eg. end of clocks), and you can do 65-70 in second thrashing it why do you want an rs1800 box anyway? particular reason? if its mpg you want its derv box all the way |

Thanks Happypaul I have the derv box in at the moment. its in a "SYLVA Mojo 2". I am hoping for more responsiveness. I cant get maximum revs in top, and to get a quick start i have to slip the clutch then its not bad in the other gears but i take the point about fuel consumption it was an Si 1800 I was told to look for. It seams i was given mixed and wrong advice, sorry boys. I went down to swanley in Kent this mourning and saw a chap named Phil stewart a gear box repair and rebuild guy. very helpful He showed me the empty casing/bell housing of the box i need its the older BC Type. looking into the box from the engine there is a two inch +- round piece of casting at about 8 o'clock. below the splined clutch shaft. the correct box for me has a small core type plug inside this 2 inch casting, 5p size also the casing around the bottom, below the speedo take off is larger and square. I dont have any numbers or any thing to explain it, I will have to see for myself. I am waiting to look at a RS 1800, when the engine comes out, this may be a candidate. My Car is a Mojo 2 with a Vulcan 1600 CVH on Jenvey's and an Emerald ECU. derv gear box 5th gear is about 80 mph @ 3000 rpm a little to high, but good MPG About 120 bhp at the moment, most other bits bits are from my old XR2. regards andysmac |
