Post subject: | Nasty drilling noise when engine off!! |
Hi guys, this is my first post here, have been looking at the site for a while now it's ace, and wondering if anyone can help...when I pulled in for petrol after work today, turned the engine off and the car (1995 SI) made a really frightening drilling type of noise through the speakers. It went off when I turned the ignition to the first notch so the radio was on, then started fine and got me home fine - parked up, then had a knock on the door from the cops saying my car is making a strange noise (it was halfway down the street hence didn't hear it!!) so went out and it was making this god damn noise again, I was convinced the car was gonna blow up lol so have disconnected the battery and obviously no noise now. Anyone maybe shed some light?? I can't use the car if it's making that noise when it's left unattended, it'll probably get towed away cos it sounds like there's a bomb rigged up in it or summat....thanks for reading this if anyone has any thought greatly appreciated. Kim. |

Thanks. When I reconnected the battery the following morning the noise disappeared, but I whipped it up to the garage anyway and he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I can hear a bit of a rumbling from the rear nearside wheel too no idea if that's anything to do with it - can't tell if it's from the speaker or the wheel, it's had it's service not long ago though and he reckoned everything was ok. Could have been the alarm, it's a non standard one but it seemed a faff to bother to take apart half the dash when the noise is now stopped. Cheers for the tips, I just hope it stays silent now ![]() |
