well after the waterpump trouble i decided since i had done half the work already i would replace the head gasket and found some real problems the bores of the engine was in bad condition and had started to rust shuld i say? well i sorted that and mean while i sent the head away for a skim and pressure test and found the hole head was destroyed so its had a whole head rebuild new vavle stem seals re seated new valves ect... got the head back on with the new gasket and found the cambelt wasnt of the best so new cambelt aswel so i have run in to a big bill but my main question that so far no one i have spoke to has made clear to me my 2.0 is a black top what is the difference to the silver top? faster? stronger or is it just the age or cam cover that was diffferent ? and does any one now anywer in the west midlands that do superchippin ect except aldon motorsport? cheers

i think the silver top and black top are about the same power wise, but if it is a black top then i think you can drop an ST170 head on it

you got a pic of your bay?

the silver top has either DOHC or Zetec 16v on the ally rocker cover, the black top is....well black pastic thing

but you can swap cam covers over, black cam covers onto silver top engines etc.

the main difference between the silver top (phase 1-2)zetec and the black top(phase 3) is that the silvertop is hydrolic tappet and the blacktop is shimmed/solid tappet and they are both 136ps i think hope this helps

You sure its is actually a stage 3(blacktop) or a stage 1/2 and somebody has put a black rocker cover on?
I expect it would be a stage 1/2 with black rocker cover assuming it is fitted to a mk3 fiesta? As fitting the black top requires more work for little gain.
