i'm not the most knowledgeable person :look: ,but i'll give it a go

i think its either your starter is knackered and sticking or your battery is flat and doesn't have enough charge to turn the car over

or it could be the combination of both

mine was the same, one day it was fine the next it wasn't starting had to keep bumping it , not fun when your on the BT forcourt!

have you tried bumping it? or try giving the started a whack with a broom handle or something then try it

no prob's mate, i'm not the most technical so i might be wrong :red:

is it quite a fast clicking as your turning over?

just that my battery goes flat (well not enough to start the car) when its left during the winter months

all i get is a click click click click as Terry said, then i charge me battery & its fine

to save money i would see if i could get someone with jump leads and give that a go
atleast you could rule out the battery or find out if its had instead of starting to buy things to eliminate them

well i suppose it is quite a fast click but it also comes on when i open my doors once ive opened them using the central locking then open the doors then the click starts it also comes on when i try to start the car .But usualy i thought that when the battery dies it would make quite a loud sound as if its trying to start but it doesnt do anything.I find it hard to beleive that last night the car was perfectly fine and started first time and then when i got home the car wouldnt start .

try and get hold of someone with a battery tester and test to see if the battery is not drained and to check to see if the alternator is fine, then it got to be the starter solenoid m8 check to see if the wires are ok on the starter could be a loose wire

Check your ignition relay which is on the fuse box located under the dash/in the drivers footwell.

if it does it when you open the doors have you checked if the PATS light is coming on as normal, if PATS sender or receiver knackered and not picking up a signal it wont let the car fire but will allow it to turn over.

If the immobiliser light does come on like normal then try bump it or jump start it! :)

Only advise i could think of offering!

Modern Batterys have a 3-4 year shelf life, once it passes that time the battery is useless, wont charge and wont jump, best bet is to get the battery tested, take it off and go Kwick fit etc.

Sounds like the batterys dead, even though your jumping its still not enough juice to get it started, i had this problem on my Rallye, battery died and wouldn't jump! :)

have you got it up to a right good speed before bumping it? i only ask because my xr2i requires a downwards hill and 3 people before it will bump start.

tw@ the starter with a hammer then try.

chears for the help .today i have follwed the sound and have found out that it is coming from the ecu ,then found that the imobiliser is not working right and tht i couldnt turn it off and as the keys didnt work in the doors i took the door panels of and tried to investigat more found out that the locks must have been changed as the seal was broke and there were cables out of the wiring loom.so im now going to take it to the gaarage as they said they should be able to sort it out .

8-) 8-) 8-) he he i was right...nerrrr....sorry excuse my outbirst.lol

i though you said earlier that the immobiliser light was working right?

it probably wont be the ECU, the Fiesta 1.6 si has external PATS so its more than likely one of three things
In order of most likely

1) receiver (its the black case around the barrel)
2) the chip in the key
3) the actual pats box above the ECU - unlikely

my actual receiver went at one point so it might be that, ive heard of a few of them going!!!
