Hi there. Complete newb here when it comes to car mechanics and stuff. Just wondering if you could help me identify an issue with my Si. It's a '95 1.6 and basically when I start it up in the morning, unless i leave it running for 5 mins or so before setting off it will almost always try and stall on me when I reach the first junction. The revs go below 500 regardless of what gear or whether the clutch is down. If i blip the throttle whilst braking I can save it and if I save it a couple times it'll sort itself out. If it stalls it doesn't restart right away and requires quite a few seconds of starter motor and some playing about with the gas pedal. Anyone got any ideas? |

Clean your MAF (mass air flow sensor - just after the airbox) Clean your ISCV (idle speed control valve - situated below the throttle body and its awkward to remove, 3 7m bolts) Could be an air leak making it stall Could be many things Have you changed your fuel filter, plugs, leads, or oil since having the car? |

It probably is in need of a service to be honest, just wondered if there was anything even simpler or not. Is it quite easy to service these cars yourself? (assuming complete newbness) |

if you have access to basic tools (socket set etc) then a basic service is easy. just get a air filter, oil filter, sump plug and sump plug washer. (i think) and clean the iscv and maf. |

As above, check the air filter too. |
