idf is the early zete common problem sticking valve m8 try doing an oil change have u recentlky done an oil change, have u put the correct grade of oil in 5w 30 because the incorrect grade will cause the valves to stick

Done the oil change today and have done a few miles since the change and there doesn't seem to be any change. Had listen to the engine today, i can hear a ticking from the rocker cover while the car is missfiring then as i rev it the ticking disapears when the missfire goes. Just a thought but do the zetec engines have the hydraulic lifters like the old cvh engines? Could it be that one of the lifters is leaking and is not opening or closing the valve properly at low revs? Any ideas guys?

Nah its definately not the exhaust gasket its a definately metalic ticking. How easy is it to remove the lifters? Is it just a case of taking the cam off and then the lifter?

mine was making a ticking noise a while ago, i think mine got a little worse when i was accelerating but then went away, it turned out to my exhaust manifold gasket, it thought it was my tappets at first as it was a fairly loud metalic ticking noise

try the least expensive thing first, if its still doing it then go for the tappets etc.

could be injector m8 put a jack bar by each injector and check the sound of them if one is ticking faste rthan the other the injectors either need cleaning or replaced u need the injector seals aswell if u have them serviced
