Sounds like it could be the diff bearings starting to fail, check your gear box oil, also, what vibra technics mounts are you using? As that could be making it sound 100% worse than what it actually is

nothing to do with the wheels, i think what your saying is i was using universal rear wheel spacers, i now have hubcentric ones on the rear

car drives in a straight line, had the wishbones on the car since 2007, not many miles have been covered in that time due it being off the road for 3/4 years of that, its got mot on friday and im getting the tracking done as one track rod ends thread stripped new hubs and new discs and pads are on, slight improvement but its still there
.. so replacing both track rod ends tonight

The lower arms won't cause problems like that unless one of the bearings/bushes has failed, so unless you haven't checked them, you can rule that one out

new hubs fitted and new track rod ends, just had the tracking done and vibration still there

Have you checked that the carriers for the lower arms are tightened up good and proper?

Clutching at straws as its the only other moveable thing thats connected to the steering wheel that you ahvent changed that I can think of!!

Say you're on your private road/track, when you go above 80 and the vibrations come, do they stay, gradually get worse the faster you go or start to tail off again at say, 95/100?

I would logically say it is something to do with the rotational system first, than suspension movement caused by the added force of speed and gravity. So make a list of everything involved in the rotation of the wheel and tick it off one by one.

If it's not unbalanced shafts, wheel bearings, wheel balancing or even sticky callipers then it's a toughie. Good luck man.

it sure is des

it kinda puts me off wanting to track it but took it round some good tight country lanes a couple of days ago and handled like a train, its just the high speeds, i did have some real problems with the driveshafts back in september as i changed the long dshaft no problems, put the new shorter one on and had major vibrations around corners so put old short shaft back on and was exactly the same, so i got pissed off and took it to a garage they found the fault was that the snap ring fell out of the long shaft while fitting the shorter one, so thinking about it there was probably nothing wrong with the new short shaft but i still have the old short shaft on it, the new one was since sold to a mate and i have it back at as it too was buggered might dig my recipt out and get it changed for another as im sure most motor factor parts have a years warrenty

yep last thing im going try...then going to give up lol, the old shaft has a new cv joint but could be the inner joint at fault, but i still think its the gearbox :rolleyes:

I can sympathise with you Phil. Had a very strong and loud vibration at 4000rpm for months and months. Finally found the exhaust itself to be causing the resonance and vibration, then all of a sudden a few days ago the resonance almost totally disappears. I've still got no real idea what it is exactly.

I nearly gave up and handed it to a garage to diagnose properly. Sometimes it's just easier to pay a little money and let someone who sees this kind of thing often taken a look, unless you've gone down that route already?

id love to take it to a garage to get it sorted only thing is that it happens at 80mph plus not sure how or who could test it :rolleyes:

I wouldn't trust any garage, nobody knows my car better than me :lol:

Phil, if you're only getting a bit of vibration at much higher speeds, don't let that put you off taking it on track.

Out of interest, let's say you're at 80mph, in 5th, and the vibration is there, if you change down to 4th, is it still there?
