The mk3.5 have more splines on the cv joint where it slides into the hub, the bearing is a one piece sealed bearing, whereas the mk3 has a tapered kind of bearing which is useless, also the mk3.5 has bigger holes for the shock absorber and ball joint

Well, I could go into the fact that the rear axle see's less stress than the front as there is torque aspect to consider from the engine, purely a small torque caused by drag of the wheels, therefore requiring a smaller diameter shaft and consequently nut compared to the front...BUUTTTT... at the end of the day, cause they can is probably more accurate :D

It's because there's so many fucking idiots in Ford's design process. The amount of stupid things, stupid sizes, and stupid positioning on Fords is the reason I won't get another  I like to work on my car, and I like it to have some form of thought gone into it. Whenever I work on a Ford, I can't comprehend why certain things have been done the way they have.

What you talking about Des, Fords are the only car I know where 80% of the bolts that you ever need to take off are 13mm, 10% are 10mm and the remaining 10% are (granted) whatever the design engineers 2 years old comes up with ;)

Seriously though, is it just me or are most of the bolts 13mm on Fiestas?

13mm, plus the rust that has formed on them rendering the socket useless

Nah, there's a lot of 13mm's on there, but then there's just so much randomness. It's the design of things more so, I often find myself shouting in a fit of rage "WHHHHHHHYYYY have they done it THAT fucking way!!??!??!?"... Like when I done a clutch on a Focus, there were so many silly needless designs. And why the feck do the track rods not have flat spots on them? Nowhere to grip when you have an inevitibly rusted on track rod end! I had to grind flat spots on them!

Whereas the Pulsar is 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm. And they all make sense for the job they're doing. And have access. And don't rust. And don't round off

Much...

Yeah, on the battery side, the access for the bulb is stupid. Not as bad as a Megane, but still awkward as fook

Ford bolts designs... dont get me started! The one I hated the most was the lower arm bolts. 15mm. The most stupid size ever because most people don't have a 6 sided 15mm socket so they round off. I've bascially replaced most of the bolts on my car for decent sized stainless ones over the years. Got some nice 19mm bolts on the lower arms now. Man size!

The newer mondeos have awesome headlight designs to replace bulbs. Honestly THE best design I have ever seen in my life! Literally pull out 2 clips on the top of the light and the whole unit comes out. Can do a bulb change in no time. Megane ones - I am awesome at them now. I can do them in about 5 mins unlike the the usual 35 it would take most people lol. Audi headlights are fun too. Think I had an A6 or A4 to do once... never again! You have to take off SO much stuff to get to it, I think its quoted as a hour and half job and no lie, it takes a good 45mins.

Good call on replacing them all! The ones I hate the most are the fekkin Torx bolts on the hub ball joint!!?? WTF, really, why put something that's so prone to rounding on an area that's so prone to rusting and seizing!??? Utter stupidity...

Yeah those are a good one! I've had my problems with them in the past before! I replaced them with normal bolts on the old fiesta - made life so much easier. But on this one I just got some brand new from ford, they are only like £1 each so thought why not.

Yeah, the A4 headlights are ridiculous.
One side, piece of piss then you get onto the other and it's like a Mensa challenge to get all the bits off and back on again!

The Torx bolts, I think they have thought about them quite well. Seeing as the lower arms are clearly designed to fail prior to the bolts getting any chance of rusting on
Although I've never rounded one as i've always just undone the nut on its own as the head has been seized onto the but then used a drift to punch the bolt out :D
