But if the chip itself is water damaged you'll need to get a new chip and only ford will be able to re-code the new chip via the codes and stuff on the transponder itself or whatever they use to get the code. Probably just the chassis number these days.

The chip wont have anything to do with the key not turning, thats a key/barrel fault

It sounds like the transponder chip in your red key is goosed.

I got charged about £60 from Ford for a new Red key as I didn't have one when Igot the car.
That was supply of key, code and re-code all other keys.

As above, never use the red key daily as if you break it you cant make any other keys, but with it you can make as many keys as you like.

Does the red key turn the ignition barrel and just not start? If so, carefully get the chip out of the black key that doesnt turn the barrel and put it in the red key.

I got something like this and replaced everything bar the boot lock with it and then got a red key from Ford to match it.

Easiest way to check the chip is as iv said to you before, put the worn down key next to the key with the broken chip and try starting the car, if it isn't turning then its the barrel or that key has also worn down. Is neither key is opening any of the doors then all keys are worn down but if one that opens doors no problem but won't turn ignition then barrel is broke, if it will turn ignition but won't start then chip is broke but refer to my earlier comment on using 2keys taped together then it should start unless your that unlucky that both chips are shagged.

Abit mixed up but basically from what I'm saying from the details you have give you should be able to start the car or work out the problem.

thanks paul, ive actually had two new keys made up, they started the car several times but after that wouldnt. so pretty sure its the barrel. i had the chip checked and they said it was fine and dandy, so atleast i have 3 spare keys now

you could always take the back of the barrel but then anyone can start it and steering lock will be an issue

No they have bit for a chip.

It is possible yeah, but thats asking to be stolen. Just get the barrel rebuilt like I said, it'll be cheaper and easier than fucking around with messing around ect.
