Car's really very slow and sluggish and there's an amplified noise from the airbox, also combined with a rattly exhaust.

So, after a month or so of driving slow I got a new cat, fitted it and started up... had huge clouds of blue smoke come out the back!, they've seemed to have died off a bit now but I still have an amplified airbox and still no power.

Any ideas people?

Right, bit of an update, smoke seems to have stopped, but i havent tried another cold start yet to confirm that.

Changed the lamda sensor too (not a new one though) and i have some low-end grunt back, just nothing higher revs yet. Engine does sound fine though tbh.

Got told to check the crankshaft position sensor so will do that after tea.

you wouldent get a spark if that was faulty IIRC and your car wouldent run (not 100% on that though)

if the smokes cleared up thats good news :)

as i think someone said give every sensor you can find a good clean

dissconnect the air flow meter and see if it runs better,

if it does thats to blame you can eather clean it or replace it

I removed the maf plug and it didn't really run any better or worse =/

As said tho, plenty of grunt at low revs through the gears, just doesn't pull at all well whilst revving, then push the gas down and it just roars from the air filter and goes even slower tut.

Took a small clip of how rough the idle is, turn your bass down though lol:

sounds very grunty indeed!!

backbox maybe colapsed? (inside) stick your hand over the end of the pipe and you should feel the preassure build up quite quick and push your hand off

Right, fixed that horrible idle, took my MAF sensor plug off and rammed it back on and it's idling fine now. So that just leaves the silly airbox roar and lack of high-rev poke.

Will see what the back pressure's like in a bit, think my neighbours are annoyed that i keep starting it and revving it lol.

Ah ok sorry lol. When it was unplugged it caused that horrible lumpy idle, then when plugged back in it went smooth.

Well coincidently I had it done and the belt was too loose so went back to be tightened and has played up ever since!

could possibly be a case of a jumped tooth then?

get the bottom end to TDC and then check the cams are both in the correct place

What's the easiest way to set TDC? I can't even see the crank pulley lol.

Just started it today cold and there is NO smoke, must have just been in the cat, so that's a big sigh of relief. It is still smelling rich and seems to be rather thirsty on fuel!

Was over 1/4 tank yesterday and I think I drove 5 miles and it's now on the 1/4 mark, not sure if that's significant but may be related to the lack of power when pushing the pedal further, hmmmm.

Sooo recap summary of symptoms:
Fuel drinking
Smelling rich
Extremely loud airbox when pushing the throttle
No pull through the revs, just low end grunt
Tops out at 80mph stuck in the middle of the rev range

Have you tried changing the plugs and leads, or maybe the ECU? :)

My mates Fiesta had the same problem by the sound of it..
