right people after thinking long and hard ive decided to repair the 1.6 engine as i get a gr8 amount of pull out of her she tops out at 120mph with a little more if downhill or if maxed in every gear so she is very quick little engine!!! i need and engine specialist in the essex area who could repair it for me it needs a new piston ring and im not sure what the tapping is 100% so need that looking at to hope someone knows somewhere i really wana keep her original so thts y im not guna do the 2 litre let me know asap as the tappings getting worse cheers scotty

Check your oil level and top up with the correct oil! Zetecs tap like hell when there low on oil!

yer done tht its bloody mental tappin like it taps wen i rev but not on the way bck down like i mistakingly told swampy but its really really loud definetely need this mechanic anyone know cheers scotty

The tapping is probably a hydraulic lifter that has given up which opens and closes your valves. If it is coming from the top of your engine then it is a 99% of this.

If it was the bottom end it would be a knocking or a rumbling under accelleration
