I think my clutch ratchet thingy has allmost died, basically im getting alot of up and down movement, before it the clutch actually starts to move.

Ive put it down to this? any thing else it could be and is it hard/easy to sort out?

do you mean "free play" before the clutch starts to engage?
if you mean free play then it could well be both cable and ratchet, obviously change cable first as thats only going to be in the region of £20.

Clutch slip test:
one method is, go on roadtest, go up a reasonably steep hill at about 50mph, pull the handbrake on gently and see if the revs increase more than the speed.. that would indicate slipping clutch i believe?

Cable is fairly new actually, this is my second in the last few months.

Yea its free play, like sometimes it will click to one position and be feel tight, the next it will click to another and feels like the clutch has only moved half way.

I dont think the clutch is slipping, well it might be when the ratchet bit dont release properly.

Sometimes it feels tight, the next its loose! I can hear a click sometimes, usually after the click it goes tight.

does sound like your clutch ratchet mech is a bit nadged mate

even the mouse about the house reckons its a bit of an arsehole to fit..
