is there a guide on how to change the gearbox oil on the fiesta si? also how much capacity is the gearbox oil?

No, it's not something that Ford ever gave a procedure for.

Best way to do it is to pop a driveshaft and catch the oil that runs out and then put back together.
Then there is a filler plug at the front of the gearbox with a hex recess, take that out and fill with the nozzle that Halfords oil has on it.
Can;t remember the capacity off hand but it is in the Haynes manual.

Its a bitch to get access into the fill port, from memory I took out the horn to assist.

Easiest way is to remove the lower suspension arm (note this needs new bolts) this allows the hub to swing free, then get a crow bar in against the rib of the gearbox and pop the driveshaft out.

If you don't have a haynes manual buy one, it gives you all the info you need in various different sections.

will all the oil come out of the driveshaft hole? or will still some be left in the box?

anyone know how much capacity the box has?

gear changes are bit hard when cold, so im guessing its the cheapo oil in the box, its a new recon box I got on and have done 30k on it. iv changed box oil for fully synthetic stuff on my celica and aygo and it made a world of difference in the cold winters changing gears. was hoping to do the same for the fiesta. oil will cost about 40 quid for the good stuff. but if it lasts a lifetime then its money well spent from my eyes.

thanks for those pics, looks like a much easier job removing that selector shaft cap nut. need to get under there and have a good look at it. but that's for that find.

also will the selector shaft thingy allow all the box oil to come out? or will some be still left inside?

Nearly all came out, last couple times I've used castrol fully synthetic gearbox oil seemed an improvement but still didn't help when a bolt came loose!

ahh good stuff, mine is standard fiesta si 1995, 1.6 how much quantity and what grade oil do i use? its 75w something i guess. lol

hey all, was going to get this done but wondering is there any risks or issues involved in removing that selector shaft cap nut to drain the gearbox oil? apparently its to do with reverse gear i dont want to remove that nut and end up loosing reverse gear or worse.
