Gents

Been checking over all of the front set up, suspension, wheels, driveshafts etc and hit a problem. i had the front jacked up with the wheels attached.

As i checked the near side wheel for play etc i noticed the driveshaft connecting to the offside cv boot was clonking as i turned it left and right.

So off i went to the other side to double check. Now it sounds to me as if its not seated properly. However im starting to think it might be because its missing its snap ring?

Does this sound correct?

In regards to the brake pads, does the outer side need a smearing of copper grease or is this not 100% necessary?

I would get a snap ring on it as it holds it all together.
I always put a smear of copper grease doesn't take any longer to do

Yeah im just hoping that it is missing the snap ring as i dont want to have to fork out for a new driveshaft!

Any ideas where i can get one? Ebay doesnt seem to be coming up trumps.

Just had a revelation, Im using and erst box with fiesta driveshafts. That works doesnt it?

Whilst your here big g, what size fuel pipe would i need to fit over the fuel filter. is it 6mm/1/4 inch?

Last time I needed a replace men t drive shaft bms did a trade in of your old one if in one piece. Can't remember the exact costs but I remember it costing me about £60 after trade in.

Copper grease is optional, so don't worry if you don't have any.

ahh yes so they can recondition it? That about halves the price of new jobbies so that could be an option. Cheers Percy.

Yes i read its either or. To stop squeaking yes but from what i read Mechanics do it but 'Brake Engineers' don't lol

Yes that is basically the deal, I will say that was on my Saxo so prices may be different but its worth giving them a call and seeing what they offer if there is one nearby. I am sure others will offer something similar.

Well the reality is it won't stay there and will eventually be gone anyway, it is purely to reduced squeak so not important.

You need to grease them up so they slide though, make sure you grind the rust off the caliper or you'll get uneven wear like I have.

calipers are all refurbed chris so no rust but ill grease em up regardless

What brand of brake pad are you using?and does it have an anti squeal backing on it already?
