Right you tarts, simple question.
How the fuck do you get the sump off when your engine is in the car?

I've dropped the exhaust, removed the starter and alternator. Undone all the bolts but I just cannot for the life of me get the thing to clear the alternator bracket/pas bracket/engine mount bracket. Its loose and moves about but won't come off!

Anyone who's done this have any tips as I can't be the only poor bastard who's come across this!

Haynes book of lies is, as usual, no use. Just tap and lower clear my arse!!

substitute tap for 'twat' im sure someone will pop up with the answer but maybe its just brute force needed?

Tried brute force! Problem is then getting the fucker back on

true but once its off surely you will then see how to get it back on

If I remember when I changed my rod bolts it was a pain to get off, ended up lowering it trying front and rear first but ended up having to leaver it off with aid of piece of wood, can't remember what it got stuck against, also to get it back on had to use a piece of wood and a jack under the sump to push it back on.

loosen the gearbox bolts as well,ive had this problem a couple of times

Hi mate,

Yeah, in the end I took off the front engine mount to block bracket and loostened the gearbox bolts around 10-15mm and levered the block and box apart.
Came off a dream then!
