hi

on a ghia? 1.4? M reg..

the missus' sister owns it and complains it idles quite poorly, sometimes 1500rpm, sometimes down to 1000 then back up, and generally a bit too eratic.

Now from what i can see this iscv is electrical and pushes some sort of rod inside the inlet manifold which then adjusts the volume of air going into the cylinders??

Next question:
is a 1.6 16v engines iscv the same (i havent yet had a look as its dark!!)

Just wondering how i can cure this fault? would be ideal to test it before i buy one from a scrappers for ex.

Thanks
Paul

Check all the breather hoses and all them other hoses related for splits, also try giving them a good clean.

Check the air filter, it may need replacing, and the only other thing I can think of would be to replace the fuel filter?

Ok well swapped ISCV from an escort at the scrapyard (£5), no fix.

Randomly unplugged the MAF, instant fix, but obviously fuel mixture still incorrect.

Plugged MAF from my SI (1.6 16v) onto it, plugged the maf in, judders, unplug it, cures the juddering / uneasy engine idle speed.

Thinking this is a wiring issue to the MAF?

Needing a wiring diagram as found two wires cut and "dangling" down by the maf connector, all wires in maf connector look to be in ok condition, i think 3 pins 12v, one pin 6v, then when running i think the 6v shoots up to 7 or 8v.

These two wires i mentioned, they run in the loom along with the MAF wires?

Should note, i pulled kick panel out on passenger side, found a few wires had been cut and taped together, and on the other side scotch locks in place.

My theory being, an alarm was probably fitted (still in engine bay with no wiring, and hole in dash for led), possibly wired off to the MAF to cut the engine off when the alarm was set?!?!

The red and black wire running from the MAF sensor into the car, seems to join a large thick brown wire, with a weird bullet connector, haven't traced where that goes, but still dont know what each wire does.

Im convinced in myself that its a maf fault or wiring issue, as neither maf sensor seems to work?? but when plugged in it effects it.

Thinkin about testing by briding the terminals in the maf connector to see if it effects the engines running.
Ideally wanting to find out what the two wires do and all the maf wires do first, if need be run new wires from ECU/ECM to maf.

Should note, 12v down the two wires hanging down (well one x 12v, one prob an earth).

If anyone has experienced this and knows its probably the fact ive used a 1.6i 16v maf on a 1.4ghia 8valver?? then plz let me know

any info is good info!
:)
Paul

its not my motor but it does stink of fuel and is doing about 190-200miles to a tank apparently.

well i stuck a clean known-working maf on off my car is what i said so i assume it hasnt got dirty in a box under my bed :)

will try and test signal wire on lambda next time i see the car, was just wondering about the maf issue, then again the maf wires might be throwing the ecu off and causes a temporary fix..?
