Always start with your plugs and leads. Give them a change, and inspect the spark plugs that you take out (the back of the Haynes shows you what different effects can be caused by) but look for oil and sh!t down there. If there is, then it could be a couple of things, but let us know and we can get a better idea of what it could be.

I guess the obvious answer would be sticky valves, but this is used too much without a solution being given. More info on the problem could help. Does it suffer a power loss during these revs? Does it happen whilst moving, or at a standstill, or both? Have you changed anything recently? Smoke? When was it last serviced? etc

:)

i just checked the oil today, i know should do it tegular but u know how it goes. its below the minimum, hoping its just this. there are no leaks on my drive or in the engine. i do a lot of motorway driving so mayb burns it up.

it got serviced by ford in late september so ni idea why its so low.

The breather is the little hose that goes from the top of your engine to the side of the airbox, if you have got an induction kit on there you will either have to plug this hose into the cone filter of the induction kit, or fit a breather filter on the end of it. The little breather filters just cost a few quid from parts shops.

5w30 is the recommended oil for Zetec engines but the Haynes manual says you can use anything between 10w40 and 5w30. I used to use Magnatec 5w30 but found it was too thin, it was running really low on oil all the time.

The thicker oil definately helps shut my tappets up. But tappet noise is more of a rattle than a crackle so I don't reckon thats the problem in your case.

I'm not sure if it matters, Mouse will probably be able to tell you!

I guess you must just have a hole in your cam cover that just lets unfiltered air in and out :)

You can make your own one easily, just run out a bit of 4-5 mm diameter hose from the hole in the cam cover and put a cheap breather filter on the end, they're about £3 from Halfrauds
