Copied from ZSOC..

Hellloooo.

I am having some major issues with my Puma engine.

Not long ago it started getting a little boggy on start up (as seen in video) and then it got worse and worse to the point that I would have to have foot flat to the floor for about 30 seconds whilst it turned over and occasionally fired and died like really quick and eventually would kick into life.

This then progressively got better and went away as soon as I tried to show everyone at portsdown hill, started as if it was brand new.

This has now come back again, progressively got worse and last night sucked trying to get it going took a good 30 seconds or so and its not good.

Ignore the clicking in the video thats my exhaust manifold gasket I am giving it some revs to keep it from stalling as sometimes it does but listen to the way it runs.

Towards the end of the video when I move the camera outside it is idling and running fine again. When I start it warm/hot it starts up first time fine.

Any ideas? Preferably detailed ones and not just "check the ISCV"

Hi Chris,

If its starting ok when warm and not when cold, this would lead me to think ECU temp sensor.
Now I don't know the Puma engine at all, so this is based on the Zetec but the top sensor on the thermostat is the one for the ECU which sorts out the fueling, I would imagine the Puma would ahve a similar sensor.

Replace that sensor and check that the wiring is not corroded/damaged.

Hope that helps

Paul :D

P.S. Check the ISCV ;)

Ok Cheers, I know they are under the coilpack on these engines and aren't to hard to change so shouldn't be a major problem getting hold of one and swapping it, i'll pop to ford later and see what the damage is.

The ISCV comment was more to ZSOC :P They're a pain for "check the ISCV, Spark plus, Leads, Bottom end, top end, cams, wiring, earths, your seats secured correctly"

The basically say rebuild the engine with all new parts and you'll be fine

Yeah, the true sign of someone who doesnt have a clue what they are talking about. Just replace every sensor you can find and if that doesn't fix it then chase a non-existant earth problem.
Cheers guys! ;)

Sounds very much like a temp sensor seeing as it runs fine hot, would put a good few quid down the bookies that ECU temp is the issue :)

Let us know what you find

Paul

There is a temperature sensor on the block, but how would I go about sorting an ECU temp issue?

One temp sensor is for the dials, the other is for the ECU. You just need to find out which one is which. Ed should know :)

I wouldn't bother popping to ford for one, major fuck that lol. I got new ecu and dials ones for about £7 each I think it was, from motaquip. They was ford items too. Never got round to using them though because I swapped the whole engine lol.

Iffffffffffff you find out what sensor the ecu one is, pop a picture up if you cant get hold of one and if I have one ill send it to you for you to try.
