hi everyone as some of you know ive converted my si from pas- manual steering using-1.8 16v xr2i rack and column, 3.5 trackrod ends, took the car in for it and it couldnt be tracked as the rod ends go to the end and wont adjust any further :? therefore making it as if the arms appear to long...could i have put the steering wheel at an angle to have caused this? 1 wheel sits towing in, the other looks straight with the steering wheel straight.... driving the steering is heavier round corners then i expected not sure if this is due to the tracking and also the wheel sits on the wonk driving

can anyone help?

count the turns lock to lock should be four then turn the steering whel to 4 full turns to centre then u have to undo the uv joint take of the shaft to the wrack that should reset the wrack to centre

ye the power steering ones are set 10mm back and the manual ones are 10mm closer i think the rs turbo ones were the only ones 10mm set back with the angle of the ball joint different

o the best track rod ends to put on are the rs turbo or the xr2i ones as they have the 10mm shaft as somes mk3s had 8mm shaft its the ones with the 17mm nut

check the size of the track rod end nut mate it should be 17mm if so you will have the 10mm track rod end shaft if its 13mm you will have the 8mm shaft and it will be the wrong one for the car as im sure the si came wiv the 17mm nut the larger track rod end what happens is the 8mm shaft in the 10mm hole will cause the rubber to be hitting the hub and you wont have no moevement in the track rod end and thats where your problem may lie

as you can see 2 differnt types one for the smaller engines mk3s and one for the bigger like the 1600s on

i defo have si ones on the car mate, but when running a mk3 not mk3.5 rack manual with 3.5 hubs, and with the si track rods on it makes it appear like the arms on the rack are too long hence the tracking problem are mk3.5 pas rod ends the same as mk3.5 manual rod ends?

I still don't understand how I cannot not be tracked up...
My pickup was running MK3 non pas rack, 3.5 hubs, 3.5 wishbones (I have yet to see any difference in 3's or 3.5's)
And I could track mine up perfectly fine..

yeah that sounds about right, as all the sterring racks are the same turn to turn apart from the quick rack on the rs turbo and cars with p/s, what you should do is unwind the track rod ends, and turn the steering lock to lock, counts the turns (i think it should be 3.4 turns lock to lock for non-p/s racks) how ever many turns lock to lock you count, half it, and thats the center of your rack, you might find the wheel has been put on in the wrong position

as long as there are threads available to adjust the track rod ends, it can still be tracked up
not the proper way, as it really needs centralising, which as said isnt hard to sort.
