Today my car has developed a scary scraping noise. It sounds like something dragging on the floor but I can't see anything on the floor and it also happens while im stationary. I checked my oil in fear and it was pretty low but I filled up to the max line and it's still making the noise. The warning lights didn't come on at all either.

I have been having trouble with my rear drum leaking brake fluid but I've been keeping it topped up until I can replace the piston. Could that be causing it? I am really worried that it's coming from inside the engine.

Other possibility I'm thinking is there is a squeak coming from a belt somewhere, could that cause a scraping noise?

As im at a big loss for this noise I'm gonna take it to the mechanics first thing so he can atleast have a listen but if any of you had an idea I may be able to sort it or atleast have a direction to point him in.

Cheers

if it makes to noise when stationary must be engine based, possible bearing going, belt tensioner, alternator or water pump
