Im looking to get a lock set of Keimeister (sp?)

Its a full lock set with 1 black key, im understanding getting another red key is £££ ???

How important is it to have the red key aka electrics or any problems? If it can live without it id like a fresh set on my car all on one key

Yeah, basically the red key is a master and the black ones are slaves lol.

I have 1 red key and 4 black keys, i always keep the red key in a safe place

I am sure you can get a copy done from a black one.

Eitherway what are the odds on you ever needing the red key in reality?

If you got a new lockset you'd need the red key to program the pats code to the black ones

Are you buying a genuine ford lock set?? As i replaced all mine last year for £60, if you want to do it on the cheap, buy a lock set for a car without the PATS system ie, pre 94 or L reg and then fit the sensor from your key in to the steering column by the pick up ring, then just fit or make a simple or after market imobiliser

or go to your local ford dealer and get them to rebuild the barrel for £15

i got a key cut for my runabout without having the red key cost £75 at timpsons

are you changing the PATS module or just changing the locks, if your just swapping the ignition barrel you would either need to tape your old chip to steering colum or get new ones coded in. if you were coding them in if its pre 97 you only need one master red one and one black one with a red chip. after 97 you need red plus 2 black ones.
at my work they take an hours labour for programing and red master key is around £35 and an aftermarket black one is £15
