I have a Ford 2005 cassette player that I would like to keep as it's very much in line with the style of the car. I've also got an iPhone dock on it's way, in dashboard black :)

The wiring for the charging of the phone is sorted (how to do it: ) but now I just need to get the audio feed from a jack at the back of the dock to the speakers. The radio doesn't have an input, unless I use the tape adaptor, but this project is to remove visible wires and such! What could I do? If it means opening it up and soldering I'm all for it!

I don't think this is possible mate as there is no way of processing the audio, as the 2005 wasn't designed for inputs.
The only way to get away with it is to buy a ipod compatible stereo, hide it in the glovebox and make the 2005 for display only.
Or if you could get hold of the ford amplifier and put that in one of the trays, and try and wire it into that somehow?

Hope this helps

Or you could take the stereo apart...
put one of those tape aux things in and run the cable out the back of the stereo.

But i think you might not be able to use the radio then :/

Yeah radio wouldn't work with the cassette permenantly in. I did previously set it up so that the wire for the cassette adaptor went into the ashtray and came out the windscreen heater vents, but it's not enough for a slightly OCD person like me.

I'm looking up general wiring for cassette players and radios, to start identifying parts, then set up a relayed system that interrupts one of them.

You could use an amp, have the ipod signal go to that.

I have seen an FM tuner which actually wires inline on the current aerial so should give a perfect signal.

Never knew that existed, but looks like quite a good option

And then you could just run the phono cable into your glovebox through that bit that comes off in there, dunno what it's for lol

I've decided to not use an FM transmitter as I know that would get in the way of wiring the dock up into the cars loom.

Edit: Come to think of it, that item looks damn confusing! And way too expensive, this should be manageable for much less.

Looking at the pic, you have a 12v wire, ground, loop wire for the antenna and radio, a switch.
And then you just plug in the rca's.

But it is a bit expensive i must confess

Found this basic diagram:

http://www.hobbyprojects.com/block_diag ... eiver.html

I'm guessing the feed could be fed into somewhere before one of the last two blocks. Using a relayed system that detects when the phone is plugged in (use of voltage trips a relay which switchs over the feed from radio to line in feed) it could be possible.

I've taken the radio apart (and put it back together successfully). Lots of things to figure out.

But... I found a port/socket on the back. With two pins.

Image

I've highlighted the port and a plastic catch to hold a plug in.

I suspect it could be a port in or out, no idea as the pins disappear into the block.
