the other day i drove up a steep hill, stopped at the top and the car was making a strange smell, not oil or rubber.

now whenever i stop the engine and get out i get a whiff of somthing which smells like a hairdryer/blow heater, you know the type, kind of electric filamant smell!

any ideas? i dont want a fire!

Doesn't mean it's on the way out though, mine was replaced earlier this year and it does it. You'll notice it if you're holding the car on a hill with the revs going at the biting point (no handbrake or normal brakes stopping you from rolling, just the revs).

my clutch pedal is bleedin vertical! my knee touches my face when i change gear!

when you park up smell your front brakes too, could have a caliper thats binding and burning the pad on the disc.

i changed my oil last week (again!)

it went all over the block and various other bits when i took the filter off, the smell could be that no?

it never pongs under the bonnet, just outside the car and the vents!

i know it aint the cat as thats fresh.

look at ya all blaming it on the clutch... Its obvious that after booting it for a bit u all get a bit scared and... err.... skid..... in yer Y-FRONTS that is.... so the smell is actually most probably what ever u had to eat the night before....
