the car was fine but all of a sudden we went to it and tried starting it and the battery was flat so we stuck the jump leads on it and it started fine turned it off and it started again and it was fine for the whole day but the next day the battery was flat agin so we stuck the leads on again and got it going but when turned off it wouldnt start again even after a drive. any ideas? could it be alternater or just a nakard battery or somehing completely different?

like i said this problem came all of a sudden, i was thinkin that if it was a nakard battery then it would gradually get worse rather than just die like tha as my fiesta battery is nakard but i get by easily enough. i got told that when the alternator goes none of the lights etc work properly even when driving but on the corsa they do, its like there is nothing wrong when its running. Help will be much appreciated, thanks

have you tested the battery to see what its kicking out, should be around 14 i think!!

If the alternators gone then when you start up the car it should be alright. Possibly be able to drive it normally, but will cut out and die if you put the lights/blowers/wipers on. and will die once you have turned the car off, then try to turn it on. So therefore you have to jump start it every time.

I'm not very experienced with batteries so wont comment, the only thing on those is sometimes a loose wire as i didn't screw a nut on my mates corsa tight enough after testing my sub on his car and his corsa wouldnt quite start.. but then, thats not really what you've said

every thing is fine when the car is running, its just the battery is savagely dead when the car is turned of, i tried bumping it down a steep hill and it wouldn't start. only starts with jump leads. bloody vauxhalls!

is the 1.2 8v? so i know which alternator to get. . . . if anyone knows

Google the model and put stats next to it or something might find out that way. If not normally they are 8vs. Lower litre engines tend to be right? Just my guess

it was the battery, got a replacement for £10, works fine now . . . aswell as a vauxhall could anyway lol
