hey

im only worried as yesterday i blew up a few airbags at work and now i respect their power and dont want an airbag - fookin dangerous.

right so:
drivin home tonight,
smoke comes pouring out of the ignition barrel / just above it.

i pull over and get out as i dont want to be recovering from airbag burns / breaks..

im thinkin somat was shorting out? but that could be dangerous - 12v onto the airbag etc.

so i need this securing or im gona rip it out and say bollox to it..

anyone got any ideas? (mouse? - i tried calling but number out of use??)

one note is:
my ignition barrel is screwed has been for some time, if you wiggle the key in the barrel it turns but if not it wont turn.. got me?

So yeah any ideas before i rip the airbag out (as a safety precaution)

oops that might b when i kicked me mobile across the worksop floor it made a weird sound,
right disconect the battery wait 10 mins, take the steering cowling off look for burnt, wires take the 2 bolts out ov the back ov the air bag i think there 6mm (the air bag will come out at this stage) disconect the wire behind the centre ov the air bag, if u have trouble getting the wire off the back and it looks burnt then the air bag is up the duff and ull have to get new air bag wiring/connection, if i was u id get the air bag out A.S.A.P u can still drive the car with out the air bag in, it might even just b one of the ignition wires has come off, happy hunting

Sounds more like your indicator stalk block than airbag troubles. I had exactly the same thing happen to me on my old Fiesta, it was the block unit melting inside. Does it smell like burning plastic?

Take off you column, remove the control stalk block, and check it all out. Mine had melted enough so you could see it on the outside of the block burnt.
