just had a thought, i used the engine loom from a si, could this have been a PATS related issue?

i thought that PATS was in the main interior/ecu not the engine loom?

Im sure whenever I had a pats issue the starter wouldnt even turn over... due to the fact the trigger wire for the starter to engage runs through the pats system.

It definately does that on my MK5 which runs the same type of pats system.

PATS definetely doesn't turn over the started motor if there is a problem with it.

I was playing about with keys and the PATS chip and when the LED was flashing then all I got was a click until PATS was happy!

i had a skim read through...you said cps seems okay...did you meter it to make sure your your getting a pulse?..it works along the same lines as an abs sensor...if you cant get your meter in there.. 2 wires and some small female terminals on would do it..i havent got the exact figures you should get..but have a pulse of open circuit/closed circuit...or an electrical voltage pulse depends on which way round it works

Phils had this twice..first time was the cps..was broken and hanging on for dear life..would be fine..run shit then cut out..then i pulled the plug and the sensor came with it...next time..no spark..it did run when i turned up..slammed the bonnet..it wouldnt run afterwards...turned out to be the cps. and the breakdown man defected the ecu  ....altho its not fair..it did have me scratchin my head too

The ECU's are pretty reliable to be honest unless its been spiked..and it will smell burnt if it has.. its a distinct smell too
Pats normally does other things aswell like it wont let your fuel pump run..thats controlled by the immobiliser.

hope that helps slightly..

well i put a spare plug on the cps and cranked the engine and got a vairying (sp) resistance

i now dont beleive is pats as im getting a voltage reading on the middle pin of the coilpack (you dont if pats is enabled)

as im using my own original mk3 loom (carb'd, no fuel injection) i've had to make a fuel relay and i can hear the fuel going along the fuel rail when i turn the ignition on.

im off to the scrappies later, see if i can get another coilpack (i know the voltage goes in but dont know if its coming out) and a few cps's.

then, if that dont work, im going to do is remove the loom and buzz every wire to make sure im getting continuity between both the sensor an ecu plug.

ive been buzzing out the si loom and for some reason one of the injector pin is in the wrong position!

could this be why im getting no spark? i would'nt have thought so?

sounds like one of a number of things
ECU, is it a DESK/DEEP/DEWY?
CPS, has it got the 1.6 CPS holder and 1.6 flywheel
Loom, have you got the full car loom from an Si fitted or just part? the Pats will kill, IIRC, fuel and spark.
i may know where there is an Si engine loom knocking about if you havent got that part.
