hi when i start the car up and let it tick in nutral i hear a knocking sound form the gear box area.

but when i put the clutch in it stops and i dont really know if does it when i am movin as when it rev's over 3'000 it gets loade from the back box.
but the car seems to drive fine the clutch is a bit stiff u may say and when i am dropping and somtimes going up gears i have to push my foot rite down to the floor to get it to engage any idea's what it is

favourite for the BC box is the input shaft bearings to shit themselves or the diff bearings. the latter being more obvious if you have an erratic speedo. but if its making funny noises youd be better of chucking a known good box in it.

Has it got any oil in it??

as above and id go for the layshaft in the gearbox making the noise

If it's a knocking rattly noise which goes away when you push the clutch down, it's more than likely the thrust bearing.

if it shuts up when you depress the clutch, as des said its the release bearing, the box should be fine

but if you want to shut it up you'll need a new clutch kit as i have been told it is ill advised to just change the release bearing

You should get the release bearing with the clutch kits anyway.

As Mouse and Jam said though, it still could be one of the shafts inside the gearbox, but I'd always say first port of call would be the release bearing to rule it out.

yeah

someone i know just changed the release bearing and left the clutch and it spelt disaster

new development the knocking noise is still there when the car is moving when i put the clutch in and let it out.
its got a lot worse in the last 2 weeks as when it 1st started it would only do it when it was cold at 1st tick over of the day and stop when the clutch went in.

now its doing it all the time i dont know weather it as when i get in 4th its to load to hear also i am gettin clutch slip as somtimes it has a loss of revs for a spilt second then resums any ideas .

BC box is the type of gearbox on your car

used on mk3 fiestas/mk3/4 escorts etc

thaks for all the help guys going to get the box off and put in a new clutch kit
as i think when the 2 litter was dropped in the car the clutch kit wasnt replaced also i am trying to track down a uprated clutch to put in to.

i dont know if this is totally related.. but here goes...
i get a knocking/cluncking noise wen i reverse (only wen i reverse) goin forward is fine
and it only seems to happen if i reverse sharply, going slower is fine (ish) lol

help please

hi pepole's i was going to put a new box in my si after the trouble.
but today i let my mecanic m8 loose in my car and he doesnt hink it is cluch slip.

he says my clutch has a bit of bark on it so there is somting.

but the car is kind of jolting back so i am going to give you guys some symtems to see wot you think.

it is a momenteraly cut out were the power dies and as it happens....

i somtimes here a kind of click or a tick noise and i am sure its from inside the car.

the lights go very dim or cut out i cannot tell.

the interior lights cut out.

and the clock resets on bad 1ns.

the cd player cuts out.

also it had mini cuts were it dosent jolt but the speckers cut out and the interior fans lose a slight bit of power as if i had therned them to the low setting.

also it is not afermed but i think my ecu is reseting as when i reset it for the maf it ran rich on feule 4 a lil bit and was a lil bit flat till it learned it all and then it was fine.


so pepoles wot do you think any help would go a long way as i am losing sleep over this its doing me in that bad....

saying about the electrics cutting out, sounds very much alike to that was wrong with my car and i found out it was a loose earth.

Mine was the earth cable which is bolted down underneath the plastic trim which runs along the bottom of the door frame next the the driver seat, it had slightly corroded and the bolt was wobbling about not making a great connection!

yea i will give that a check.

i curently have my box out and am doing some work but i am hoping to be finished by tomorow so will give it a go.

i have stiff coil over's on and they take a lot of pounding with the way the roads are round here and a lot of the trim pannals get slitly loose from it so will give that a try.
