Hi everyone, i am looking for some help

I have a 1996 fiesta si 1.4
Recently i have noticed the car using a little oil and when i am hitting high revs my friend said there is white smoke and a strong burning smell.

What could this be?

Just looking for some advice on what to do with the car?

my initial thoughts were potential head gasket but i advise posting the problem so you guys could shed further light

What's your fuel consumption been like??


In the mean time, can I suggest you avoid the high revs were possible

umm fuel consumption has been about the same as far as im awear
I'll keep my eye on it.

What are you thoughts?

Do you bounce off the limiter? Is that when you notice any oil loss?

When was the oil last changed?



My first thought (hope) is that you're running lean.
Run the tank low recently, or noticed a faint whining coming from the back of the car??

Does it puff a bit of white smoke out on startup? If so, I'd suggest valve stem seals.

If not, and it's at higher revs more so than anywhere else, I wouldn't put it past the headgasket having a bit of a leak somewhere. You losing any coolant aswell as burning oil?

when my stem seals went it was blue smoke

is it white as well?

Yeah, I suppose it's white with a hint of blue. My Pulsar's doing it at the mo. It's definately pumping out pure white smoke at higher revs? As you said first time then Meilack, I'd go for head gasket. Coolant loss would be the biggest giveaway as it should be totally sealed. If it's losing it, then it's losing it somewhere, and the white smoke would suggest head gasket. Get it changed before it's too late!

hi guys, sorry ive just checked over my car.
There seems to be no coolant loss at all stayed the same since ive had it
the smoke problem has been there a while tho and it does use oil especially when i have been booting it.
the smoke comes out just over 5000rpm
its like a black sort of smoke but not really black if u get me lol its not that thick but there and does smell a little bit
does this help?

Right, let's get this straight.

Is it white smoke, blue smoke, or black smoke?

It's using oil, but not coolant, correct?

Does it kick any smoke out on start up?

Is there any oil around the plugs? Go look.

Do you have any form of oil leak anywhere on the block at all? If it's wet somewhere, clean it off with WD40 (surprisingly good at getting rid of oil - I even used it on my trainers which got covered in oil few weeks back), and then start the engine and let it get up to normal temp then see if there's anymore wet patches. You'll have to check all around the block, underneath, sides, where the head meets the block, and the cam cover.

Then we might be able to diagnose a bit more.
