Now the reason small vauxhalls (coras/astras) are worse than their Ford counterparts is because they aren't bolted together by fritz; unlike the Omegas which then have a the Opel badge replaced with a Vauxhall one as their packed onto the ferry.

The Cavs/Vectras cover the confussing middle ground
A V6 guaranties its been bolted together in the Fatherland by fritz.

90% of the 4-pots were bolted together over here (not good  )

Either way, watchout for electrical gremlins (all easy fixes if you know what your doing, but can be daunting at first) Mid-spec GLS will probably have a couple of faults. Watch trip computer which will often throw a wobbely!
Watch for rust around the arch lips, door bottoms, and under the side windows (YES!! Even on a 99 plate  )

Interiors are solid, if a little squicky if of Blighty origin.
Engines are also solid, if again cursed with silly little gremlins which are easily fixed.

There are 2 1.8s ;)
One is coniserably better than the other, derived from a completely different engine

The 2.0 has a sufficient 135 bhp there or thereabouts, with a book 0-62 figure off sub 9 and a half seconds

Whats up with this one then...define "needs a bitta work"?

Not on the 2.0 Vectra B im afraid ;)

...with the exception of the top-mounts, but thats quite rare and caused by bigger problems with the shocks, mainly associated with early V6s

Only on the very early X20XE"V"s

......and only because there service interval is relatively short, which isn't ideal when so many people are stupid

na its for my dad,

and its turned out to be a 1996 1.8 vectra

around 120k

Probs:

1 engine management light is on, but unaffected until you hit 4500rpm, they think its a sensor but i duno!

2 small water leak. like a pin prick as it only happens when the system is pressurized, but it leaks into the car. Heater matrix?

3 central locking on passenger front door has to be manually pushed down but no biggy.

4 Slack Gearlinkage, but for a 12 year old 120k motor aint fussed!

few scrapes and dents, taxed till the end of november plus a tenners petrol and the car was free!

She be a 1.8 LS with 4 speed fan and cassette player

Few other niggles i have noticed:

The mileage digital thingy isn;t illuminated :?
the temperature display/radio and clock has some leds out
Handbrake is utter turd

But it was free :D

Well when you hit 4500rpm, its like hitting the rev limiter! And apprantly it stalls every now and again but it didnt happen to me

Honestly, no idea on the leak, didn't smel anything on the way home, it just generally smells  and the car steams up easily

I'll tell my dad about that, thanks (central locking)

Yeah hopefully one of my mechanic friends (rob  ) can sort this for me.

Its not the greatest car ever by a long shot, but it's quiet, long geared, easy to drive, roomy, free lol only complaints are underpowered and heavy, so fuel consumption isn't great but its my first proper vauxhall experience. I might even give it a clean and whack some pics up on here  8-)
