hi im new to the site and couldnt see a newbie page so figured id just say a bit about myself before i ask my question, if you dont wanna know then just skip to the question!
name is fonfe i own a rs2000 powerd mk4 esocoret and a fiesta si (only had that a month though) and the other half has a zetec s fiesta. my knowledge on fiestas is VERY limited as ive always been an escort man but i drive the other halfs fiesta quite regulary and its grown on me so when one came up for cheap with a blown head gasket and warped head i grabbed it with the intention of using it as my day to day car as fuel on the escort is starting to take quite a toll on my wqallet and the 1.8 zetec was quite good on fuel on the escort before.
now for my question!

ok quite embarrassed really as i cant seem to work this one out
got hold of a 1.6 si on an m plate, the head was fouquette on the car when i got it and i had a 1.8 zetec that i used to run in my mk4 escort so figured sling that in along with its pre pats ecu and loom.
my problem is the fuel pump, according to the wiring diagram the fuel pump feed wire should be black/red....
BUT i have 4 wires going to the pump/sender and they are all brown!
i have continuity between 3 of the 4 wires which really stumped me and i have continuity from each of those 3 wires up to the fuel pump relay, the relay is a five pin white one.
the relay however is dead as the car had pats and obviously that is not not alive as ive put in the 1.8 ecu and loom so there should be no feed to it correct?
all im trying to find out is which of these dam brown wires do i need to give a switched ignition live to get the pump working? originally i thought just give 12v to the 4 brown wires one by one, but i didnt do this for fear of damaging the sender which is still working as the gauge is working. and im really confused as to why 3 of the 4 wires have continuity between them as surely they cant be 3 wires that all go to the same place as it would of made more sense to put in just one, and then that only leaves one wire for the sender?
am i missing something here???
any help much appreciated as im starting to feel rather dumb now! and for the record wiring is really not my thing so please dont take the piss lol
just had a thought though, pats will control the fuel pump correct? i always assumed that it would just cut out the feed to the pump but could this be why there are 4 wirse goign to the pump/sender and that be the reason as to why they are all brown?
how do i get around this?
PLEASE NOTE
im not trying to learn to steal an si, which is undoubtedly most peoples first thought, as lets be honest would be easier to just pick it up on a lowloader than to mess about with wiring, im a range rover tech by trade so if i was gonna nick cars it would be range rovers not fiestas but this pats buisness is starting to annoy me as i thought i was getting round it by using my non pats ecu! on the escort it has an external pump so only one earth and one live is needed :( if only life were still that simple!

if you pull the pump/sender unit out of the tank all will become clear as they are coloured, cant remember which is which, but the pump one are red and black
