this is my zetec engine in my mk2 xr2 basically been haveing this tapping noise for a while,so yesturday i spent all day in the rain taking the tappets out checking them,i found one that i could'nt get one a part at all and one that wouldnt hold oil at all,so i changed these for new ones put it back together and still have this noise
any ideas as to wat it could be

by the way the engine ran quiet when i first put it in


sounds like summats hitting the rocker cover any help would be mucho appreciated

I have no help, but my mates has also started doing this, was fine when he put it in.. hes just done full service and no change either

why is the exhaust smoking? have you checked the timing and tightened the bottom pully up also if you have timed it up was it very stiff to turn over by hand more then usual? if so you may have bent a valve or two

that sounds really bad is there any oil left

Sounds pretty terminal to be honest, is it deffo coming from the head? Done a compression test etc..?

yes it does sound bad,its timed spot on have checked loads,it was noisy after using the wrong oil,so changed it and it got better then it cut out,after strarting it the noise appeared,im taking the head off on the weekend so should reveal the answer

bloody hell that sounds rough!! shame really, such a nice xr2, ill have to cum up to one of the south wales fords meets sumtime aswell mate, cudnt make it last month.

hope u get it sorted soon mate, sounds a bit like my mates zetec s, is all of the engine getting oil? have u checked the oil pump and the pickup tube? coz they get blocked causing oil starvation.
