ok, bit of an update
i went an bought a lambda sensor today, not a bad price
fitted it within 30mins (piece of pee pee to do)
and it's still doing it
so im going to solder (sp) the wire if i can find my dads soldering iron...
they try again
if it doesn't work then im think the cat may have collapsed...
as it only struggles under load
anyway just a thought
thanks for the replies so far
andy

I expect you know this anyway, but give the cat a good smack realy hard and see if you can hear anything jingling around in it. My advise is if your not sure take it off and have a look, not a massive job. If it is fucked Id smash all of the inside out with a bar or something and then buy a new one for the MOT, swap them over afterwards and you then have a home made de-cat. And if your buying a new cat anyway it didnt cost you anything!

i do want to do a home-made de-cat and am looking out for a cheap cat now anyway. i have gave it a gentleish prod with a breaker bar (didn't have much leverage) to no real avail..
i was wondered if it collapsed and begun to melt, and then hardened, therefore it wouldn't jingle? but i dont know why it would melt so thats probably a load of tosh
other suggestions have been cps and crank position sensor. dont like the sound of the crank position sensor...
would it help if i got a video of what it did up?
andy

CPS is Crank position sensor and i doubt it would be that, as it wouldn't start if it was that!

Could be something to do with the spark, plugs leads or Coilpack! :)

really u could be guessing all week best thing to do is get it plugged in m8 but that wire doesnt look healthy as that one of the main cables to fire the coil pack and wont be doing it any favours iwould go to scrappy and get a new plug and chop that one out fo the loom i would also check for other breakeges in the loom

I'd get a friend over with the same car *hints at you guys to offer* so you can start swap testing things like leads, plugs, lambada and coilpack etc. If that doesnt do it couldnt it be a collasped cat?

bit on an update today...
had the MOT center have a look today as i went in for my re-test...
they said the coilpack wire looks intact and said this to me (which i nearly laughed at)

(HIM)"looks like someone's messed around with some pipes in the bulkhead... theres pipes missing.. and its been quite seriously messed with by someone..."
(ME) "Pipes missing? ... Ohhh you mean the EGR?"
(HIM) "Yea..."
(ME) "Yeah i took it off, it's a fairly pointless system, had it off for a while long before the problem occured"
(HIM) "Hmmm well that could be your problem, shouldn't have been taken off!"
(ME) " :sigh: Yeah ok, i'll look at it, Bye"

muffin!
anyways, had a little poke around when i got it home and found (what i think) maybe the problem!

Image

this is a plug located behind (to the right hand side) of the inlet manifold...
looks badly damaged and several wires are broken in it...
i followed it and think it leads to the plug for my coilpack (ironically)...
other end dissapears into the bulkhead...

i think this may be the cause... but it wouldn't all of a sudden break therefore im unsure if this could be it... either way going to get it sorted a.s.a.p.

looks like it fezzy, wait and see though this might not fix it..
would 1 wire cause such a big misfire?

paul - im thinking that...but my future plans are aftermarket management of some sort anyway which would consist of a loom anyway wouldn't it?

depends what management you go for..

for example, I know if you get omex you get a loom made for your car
or if you go megasquirt you use the existing loom but chop your wires into it or use adaptor board

so depends :P

FIXED..
admittedly i've only crimped it and wrapped it electrical tape, but it does for the time being until i can get hold of a soldering iron.
thanks for the amount of replies, didn't realise this problem would be so random
cheers again
