Friday: Popped down to Ford where my best mate works (conveiniently) and he took in my escort as he felt there was a problem having been in it before hand.

The ECU Plug in showed no problem ( ) but that was maybe a case of the car (1996) being to old.

So the ECU was reset, plugs cleaned and leads re silicone greased. The MAF Sensor was cleaned also.

The PCV (Positive Crank Ventilaition) is knackered hence the dodgy idling, so i need £21 for that.

The car feels much better since the ECU reset, Other ford mechanics suggest i rip the EGR off as this could be knackered.

The exhaust (backbox and blow centre) needs sorting to ensure there are no problems but my escort now feels somewhere near the pace it should be.

Luckily it proved in expensive to fix and thanks for all your help in the previous topic (escort si problems)

Some results from my check on friday showed:

Compression 190 across all 4 cylinders
Engine running as it should. Must have been a small glitch but the ECU reset seems to have cured the problem.
The car is mechanically alright and the body is not rotten just needs TLC


New Problems:

Small hole in rust on the boot where the spoiler mounts letting water in
(sigh. bodyshop visit soon me finks)

Clutch on the way out

(will have to wait, take it easy for a while)

EGR maybe a problem

as for the egr there is a guide in the guides forum, you'll need to buy some bits from ford to plug the holes, other than that its fairly easy, even i did it and i am crap with a set of spanners

thanks, the new problems are a bit annoying, mostly the boot as its getting wet.

going to pop down to the bodyshop and get my trousers pulled down on a price to repair it.

(want to put pictures of the car up, but with bubbly arches, rust on boot and dented wing i duno lol)

The EGR can wait for now, it runs alot better (you can actually use full throttle )

The clutch isn't slipping, just biting really high, and my mate looked and said it maybe original or you could adjust it. i might just get a clutch as he said for £50 he would fit it

Local bodyshop are patching up the boot for nothing and givin me a quote for:

1: Treating/derusting the boot
2: New Front Passenger side wing/repair mine
3: Treat and paint rear arches

Other dings can wait.

Going to t-cut and mop a mark out the driver's side also.
