The state of the housing market is quite frankly a joke at the minute for first time buyers! Me and Sam are renting at the minute because we never thought we'd be able to get a mortgage just yet, but we're looking into it in the next couple of weeks.
It's all well and good if your parents give you money left right and centre, but if you haven't got a deposit you're VERY limited to what you can afford. A 100% mortgage and a high interest rate aren't the most attractive types for people as borrowing 5 times the amount of your wages is a bit risky should the value of the houses drop eventually, but it's the only choice some of us have!
Alot of it is down to an apparant shortfall in supply of housing to the demands of them. There just simply isn't enough houses for everyone who wants them. And developers are building quicker than ever, but not as well as they should be. I was watching something last week about them building on shitty land, so the houses aren't even standing for as long as they should - and they're also being built in low lying land neat to rivers, which doesn't help when you get weather like we've had.
It's a mess, it really is!
