That is proper actual hilarious, and fairly accurate too!!

Although, the bit at the end, about some engines taking it for years and others shitting themselves instantly, surely if the engine (guy in the blue shirt) shit itself then that would have a cooling effect on the turbo (gimp boy)??
Or I am just reading into this far too much?!?!?

Not really no. The main problem they faced was the piston rings being ripped out.

It was more of a project for Honda's engineering group. It was to do with them wanting a 4 stroke engine rather than a 2 stroke, then they realised to get the same amount of power as the 2 stroke machines they would have to increase the RPM of the engine. The engine itself was made to do 23,000 RPM - just to get the power. At something like 19,500 rpm the engine was producing 100 bhp - with in 1979 was a lot, especially on a motorbike! The engine did of course fail a lot and they had many problems - they never won a race with the oval engine either, and after many years of sorting problems they produced the 3X oval piston engine which was bascially 90% better and would have been ideal to race with, but they never used it and reverted back to traditional ways.

It's certainly interesting stuff, but it depends on the circumstances of the turbo setup. "compressor surge" is perfectly safe these days, does absolutely no damage to a turbo as they are built for a certain tolerance and there is no need for BOV's in most normal applications. :)

Surge whilst at full throttle is what you need to be concerned with. There's some crazy high powered GTR's that have done numerous time attacks and 10's of thousands of miles with no issues.
