invalid insurance, plus if you hit a car you would have to foot the bill if your car was found out to be a 2.0 so imagine hitting a 59 plate bmw worth £30k and compo on top!

but the 2.0 and 1.6 look the exact same only difference is the stamp on the block

Why would you do it though? Engine swapped cars are so easy to insure these days..

some people leave them registered as 1.6's on the log book but have them fully declared as 2.0 via the insurance

me i did the whole hog and re-registered mine as a 2.0 and had it insured as one, easy and simple to do

even show's up when you go get parts from say uni part..... but thats another fun and games story whe trying to explain why's its got a 2.0 and not a 1.6 and having to argue that all the parts are still the same and will fit :lolz:

its easy enough to insure correctly as a 2 litre, but believe there may still be an offence with DVLA registration documents if details incorrect, additional problem is i believe recent changes are that you cant just notify them as a increase in engine capacity, they now look for details of whom/company installed the engine swap

From DVLA web site

Changes you need to update
You’ll need to tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) about the following changes to your vehicle:

colour
engine
cylinder capacity
fuel type (propulsion)
replacing or modifying the chassis/monocoque bodyshell
seating capacity
weight of a goods vehicle
Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

a receipt for the replacement engine
written evidence from the manufacturer
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

was thinking of keeping it as a 1.6 because ill be 18 when its insured thought the insurance would be stupid if it was 2.0?

Don't do it, at 18 you think you can drive better than anyone, you drive a 2.0 insured as a 1.6 and crash into someone that's your life screwed. A 2.0 is pretty powerful for an inexeperiencrd driver. Hence the insurance cost, it might sound like a good idea and be fast, butjust enjoy a 1.6 and wait a while. Really not worth it.

1.6 is pretty quick for a new driver anyway, you will waste most corsa's. I do know a few people who have crashed 2.0 fiesta's that are still registered as a 1.6 and even after being examined never got found out but its still not worth it, keep it legal and have peice of mind is what I say.

i think im quite a sensible driver, i dont really drive fast apart from maybe down the dualy i dont really fly around corners or anything. most of my 'mates' think they are grand prix drivers, and i know im inexperianced but iv been banger/stock racing for a while, driven quite a few 2.8 v6 granadas stuff like that.. duno if that will count for anything. but then thats my opinion probably what most young drivers think.

I go gnu the basis of no ones a good driver, and it might not even be tour fault, what if some stupid woman brakes hard for no reason an you hit into the back To her? that's classe as your fault normally or just anything like that.. If your a sensible driver and don't drive like a nutter then you shouldn't need a 2.0 anyway then. The 1.6 is smooth and fast enoughto 70 to be fair.

Personally I wouldn't bother, well I haven't bothered lol just stick with the nippy 1.6 and drive as you say sensibly around and then you have no problems?

some would be happy with a 1.6, but dropping a 2.0 in is all part of the experience and part of modifying your car etc, natural progression and all that if your planning on keeping the car for a while

@ will87:- how long you been driving buddy? i know mattyboy on here had a 2.0 Si insured via adrianflux when he had 1 NCB i think so it can be done at a young at, just do it the right way, dont run the risk of getting caught and have your pants pulled down ;)

you could be the most sensible driver in the world, its the other shit drivers around you that you gotta watch out for

well on the road almost a year but cars in general almost 2 years. part of the reason i want a 2.0 is just the 'fun' of swaping around the engines. another thing is im driving the 1.4si atm and that is sooo slow espically when theres like 3 or more people in it ... i think maybe it needs a new maf or something, or it might just be really slow, and the 1.6si i got the head gaskets fooked, so i thought why not put a 2.0 in it will have more power than my 1.4 for sure. ive driven my mates 1.6 escort i didnt really find that exciting and theve got like 90 bhp like the 1.6si i think? and i have a bit of fun every now and then driving but ill only do it on roads or certain corners that i know quite well, im not ready to drive around like an 80year old just yet ;)

It's fair play, none of us can honestly say we haven't booted it for dun, or gone ab bit mad with the accelarator now and again.
I just think 2litres are powerful cars, should e approached with caution. Definately be fun doing the swap. But if your gonna do it, insure it and make it all legal, cus if it gets to much and you hit someone. Your fooked, that's the only reason I wouldn't so it, is if your planning on not doing it properly.
And yeah the 1.6 has 90bhp, Its a hell of slot faster than the 1.4 having gonefrom one to the next alot smoother and a lot more fun.

Flux won't even touch you without 1 years ncb, I was 18 when I did my conversion, but I did and still do have a lot od disposable income, so didn't mind the big insurance costs. Just don't be neive and think your the fastest thing on the road, as yes they may be nippy, but there's lots of other cars out there that will wipe the floor with you.
Don't forget to uprate your brakes.

Chris you need to go in some real performance cars if you think a 2.0 si is powerful!

At my age 2.0 is more than enough :P on the road anyway, No i don't think its uber powerful. I've driven Ferraris and Porche.

Its just the fact that on the road, you can't let a car rip, and if your tempted and crash or whatever it aint gonna be fun.
I wanted to 2.0 my Fiesta as well, im guilty of the same thing, but I just made sure it was alright with insurance first. They said no, So bleh, I'll save it for another day when the 1.6 gets boring.

You've driven a porche, bet it handled better than your Fiesta!! Porsche ;)

I put the 2.0L in after 5months!

You can let it rip on the right road, it's not all about speed, a nice B road with twisties on a National speed limit road, wouldn't have to break 60.

Yeah I knew that looked wrong but I was typing quick :P

either way, my original arguement is, not to get it and then not tell the isurance about it. Otherwise yes, it'd be great fun to change the engines over and then have the extra power. :D
