Mouse i have somehow managed to refrain from looking at S1/S2 ERST or FRST  cheers so far  95 Fiesta Si: Its true that i am a ford man (with an open appreciation for other marques) so we'll see. Well it's the best option for you in your financial state. The diesel will hold its value pretty well, it'll return 40MPG if you nail the shit out of it everywhere - I've tried it! Or if pottering is more your forte that day it'll give you 65MPG back. Diesel vs Petrol prices are the same now. Tax is half that of a petrol. £65 ish for 6 months. £120 for 12months. Insurance is pretty low and it's still quick. Loads of electrics as standard, slip diff, good brakes and ridiculous build quality. No need to service it for years. It's the best choice. Plus when you get bored, hello 200bhp and 350lb/ft remap. |

why you getting rid of the ka? you can have my xr2i cheap if you want it. needs a teeny weeny bit of tlc but its solid (yet to be welded) with 65k regulary serviced engine. it sits with tax and test on my drive only getting used on days like today (gunna go thrash it round the mountains) |

id go for the golf if you can get one for the price. But an si would be a great choice  if not at least the fiesta seeing as you should be a fiesta man at least!

Scotts got a point about the savings from a diesel. My mum drives a 2000 Golf TDI which she bought from new, shes clocked over 100k in it now and only needed the regular services, clutch pedal, sunroof seal and rear bushes. Its relaible as hell, pretty quick and she easily see's 50MPG on regular driving. |

i know your a ford man, but the VAG deisels are perfect for you. 40+MPG with a booting, easily see upwards of 170bhp plus big torque with a remap, reliable, practical. comfy, good all round cars, that will suprise quite a few people. |

Ive been eyeing up a MK1 Seat Leon Cupra 150 TDI for me new work car. 150BHP standard and should see near 200BHP with a revo remap and still get 50MPG out of it. 5 Doors and lots of rear and boot space

Shame you aint got the money really My fiesta does 70mpg at 55mph on the motorway and 40mpg around local roads, and 30mpg when you floor it everywhere yet its petrol so you can rev it properly and tax is only 120 quid for a year, and the insurance with 0 no claims is 500 a year However for the money you say you have you wouldnt go wrong with a VW diesel

actually, i think stay ford, seeing as if you bought anything else, you would only sell up in a few months anyway. maybe xr2i, as slightly better i would think than a similar price xr3i? |

vag diesels are good as long as you leave them standard when you start chipping them the gearboxes dont like it my mate is a vag mechanic with chipped 150 golf and its always eating boxes because of the torque.sensible money is on a tidy rs1800 coz they are getting harder and harder to find and they are going to start goin up in price imo |
