Well being as the weather was fookin ace, we decided our baby boa should have her first outing outside. She loved it! Although, getting her off the fence was a nightmare! :lol:

She's got a whole lot of growing to do yet though! This little thing will soon be fattening up and getting up to 10ft length! :lol:

She'll bring the fence down next year!

Anyway, just thought I'd share...

arrr, so cute mate, was good to see them all the other night, i cant beleive the difference in the shapes of the heads, the boa is my fav i think tho!!!! :thumbsup:

We've only got the one neighbour and he's fine with them!

She's not quick enough to escape really. They can move quite quick, but not really enough to outrun me.

When she's fully grown, she could weigh anything up to 25-27kg's

There really is nothing to be nervous about!

Snakes are portrayed as vicious, attack anything and everything without provaction. But it couldn't be further from the truth! I've not been bitten or even struck at by any of our snakes as they're all tame. And even if they did bite me, it's no worse than what a dog could do, if anything it's safer as you just get a couple of puncture wounds as opposed to having flesh torn off.

Granted, when she's bigger, there'll be certain precautions taken, like not handling her on your own, as she COULD kill me when fully grown. But so could a dog. If anything, a dog is more likely to attack than a snake.

The fear of snakes has been installed into all of us from a young age, be it in the media, or from other people's fears of them. They are one of the most interesting animals on this planet, imo, and I never get bored of them!

i guess if there domesticated there more people friendly as there use to being handled. Bet a wild one wouldn't be so selective about who it attacks.

Fair enough, captive bred, and captive held snakes will be more "placid" and used to human contact as opposed to a wild one. But I can assure you, the only way a snake would attack you in the wild would be if it felt threatened. So prodding it with a stick in the rainforest, or standing on it's tail will result in it lashing out. But even a fully grown Boa would struggle to eat a human. Kill yeah, no probs :lol:

So where does the fear come from as most people in this country especially, will never encounter a wild snake, and if you do, it's not going to be one of any danger. If it bites, it bites. It's not going to rip your arm off.

I'm not having a pop at anyone, as I understand that people are afraid of them, but anyone who is afraid of them answer me this - when was your last bad encounter with a snake? More than likely, never. Hence, the fear is irrational.

Yet I bet you've had a dog snap at you ready to take a pound of flesh! :lol:

Hence I said "most people". You, as per usual, are the exception :lol:

Now that, I can understand, as you have had a bad experience. But I can assure you you are in the minority. Interesting fact - did you know 12 people have been killed by Adders in the past century. 100 years of bites and only 12 deaths. They're the unlucky ones that have a particularly bad reaction. Swelling up of a limb or area around the bite is nothing in the reptile keeping world. One of my next snakes is going to be a false water cobra. Nowhere near as venemous as a King Cobra, but they are still, none the less venemous, and cause swelling should you get bitten by one.

However, I digress, the fact of the matter is that most people fear something which is nothing to be fearful of. I'd just like more people to be a bit more open minded about them. The amount of people that have been to our house, and seen them first hand then leave with a completely different perception of reptiles is amazing! :lol:

I love reptiles, i used to have a chili rose\beauty tarantula years ago, and always wanted a tortoise, slowest things in the world but fascinated by the fact I'd still have it for a pet when i was 80 :lol:

. Always go to the reptile section in pet shops, last one i went they had a chameleon, but wasn't for sale was there own one and the colours on it were unreal :shock:
