Hey all, not got a Fez yet as I'm still only 16 (9 months to go!!) but I'm basically just here to get ideas, inspiration and info before it's time to start looking for one to buy. I know I have 9 months to go but I'm itching to get my hands on one  So I thought I'd say a quick hello to everyone as I don't want to just hang around and not post at all  Alex |

my Si was my first car and i was paying about £1700! but i found that even if i insured a 1.1 fiesta it was still £1500, this was 4 years ago mind! when i did a quote for a zetec s i was looking at paying around £2000+  i go online and see if you can get some quotes, try directline, elephant etc. but being a first time/new driver your going to be bent over and shafted pretty much where ever you go

Thanks £1700 isn't too bad I mean if I can get the car for about £1000 then it will be all good When I'm going through quotes is it just a fiesta si then?? Alex. Ps. Do you think it would be a good idea to start a topic about this In the FAQ section?? As no doubt I will have a million other questions haha |

when doing a quote just search auto trader and use a number plate from a 1.6 Si or when searching pick a 3 or 5 door 1.6 16v Si  nah might as well leave it in here, just ask away

Dad has now said that he doesn't think it worth spending £2000 on insurance for a first car  He also doesn't think it is a very good idea to have a SI 1.6 for a first car... I'll still be looking to progress to something like an SI after about a year ... but thinking about it I will be learning in it as well so might be best off with a less powerful car really  Can anyone recommend a nice fiesta that will be slightly cheaper to insure but I can still make look nice with some subtle mods? (I'm thinking something like a 1.3/1.4? but not sure of the model etc...) Cheers Alex |

Just get a 1.1/1.3 mk3 fiesta, which will be cheap to insure. You can easily mod it to make it look good. Get some si bumpers and spoiler from a scrap yard for a start (or rs turbo bumpers), and some nice wheels and it will be sorted! Cheap and good looking too! Try and get a low milage one, will be in better condition in terms of rust etc. You can pick these up pretty cheap now!

only reason i got my si as my first car was because it was £200 more to insure than a 1.1 but unfortunately £1500+- is about what your going to pay for your first car, doesn't really matter what you get( 1.1 wise) but yeah go for a 1.1/1.3 MK3 fiesta and then go from there, finding one thats in good condition is going to prove hard, but they are out there
