Post subject:  Saying Hello and Thanks

hey all, my first post here, registered up due to car problems (need to register to use search function) well i got the info that i was after but thought i would share something back with you guys.
I thought i may as well post some pics up of the fiesta Si i have. its not a real power runner though, just a standard 1.6 with induction kit and magnex full cat back system.
I do like in-car audio a lot so i did slap in an alpine mp3 player and amp and 2 little 12incher subs in the boot.

bought the car in july 1998 so come july 2009 it will be 11 years ownership for me.

Hello, and no problem

I have no idea what for, but glad you found some info.

Do I notice your Si has no sunroof? :)

11 years - you've done well! You must be getting insurance for about £20 by now

hi there, it does have a sun roof, but it cant be seen in the angle that pic is taken in. its a tilt sunroof only and has a round cog to make it open and close by turning it.

insurance is at 325 quid this year with asda, seems to have gone up for no reason, cheapest it was last year at 275 quid. its on open driver policy so anyone can drive it and be insured. if driver is over 25 years old then its fully comp but if driver is under 25 then its 3rd party only.

recently the clutch cable snapped so i registered on here to get some info on it.

the end in the above pic is where it snapped from.

and the nipple that snapped was proper siezed into the clutch lever arm hole. pliers would not even make it budge, had to use a hammer to get it out in the end. on inspection the nipple had a large rust spot on it where it welded itself to the hole it goes in.
greased the hole proper this time and i wiggled the cable today (its been over a week now since new cable fitted) and the nipple moves around freely still. old clutch cable lasted 2.5 years. i rekon it could have gone longer if it didnt get rusted into the hole.

Ahh yes the dreaded clutch cable. Had mine go a couple of times when I had the Si.

Well I hope you stick around anyway, make use of the forum and get used to the residents!

well seeing as how the fiesta is getting on in the years now it would be best to stick around here and get more info if/when things go wrong.

how long did your clutch cable last? and where did it snap from?

Lasted about 6 months at a time

Can't remember where it snapped from to be honest, I think the same place as yours. They seem to be a weak point, but depends on where you get your replacement from. I'm sure I heard somewhere that there's a better one to get than the one supplied by most places, but I'd be buggered if I can remember any info on it though.

The general advice is to buy another one to keep in your boot. If it snaps, you've done it already once now, so you should be able to do it again alot quicker and easier. At least you won't be stranded then! :)

Welcome 8-)

My clutch cable was about to go when I took the engine out so replaced it with a genuine ford one whilst the engine was out and it seemed alot stronger that the one that was in, it must have been a cheapo one that was fitted before!

Nice lookin car aswell mate, never seen those wheels on an si before, works quite well tho
