Just been reading up on XBMC, and I am shocked I havent thought about it earlier.

Cause I have a 2 year old brother and my mum wants loads of kids shows to let him watch, I was hoping to make a media center network, but you could only use proper boxes or an xbox 360 console, I never thought about the original xbox (derrrrrrrrr!) so I am gonna get this done myself so my mother can have access kids shows/movies/tv programs which i have stored on my pc (obviously all ripped from original dvds)

Does the original xbox have wireless networking, or an add on for it? :D

I haven't heard of people adding wireless directly but you can use a wireless bridge, basically a device which connects to a wireless network with an ethernet port.

You could build a console like that for £60-£80 including the console if you shop about, that's with the hard drive, if you only want to stream and installing games doesn't interest you then you could save another £30 bringing it to £30-£60.

As a media centre its great for standard def stuff and music, hi-def video may be a bit past it, but like in my case, to go in a kids room on a 17" TV it really doesn't get any better, as mentioned it is intended that he will be able to watch various films etc which my brother puts in a folder, so they control what is in there.

whats the n64/ps1 emulation like? slow or ok?

im playing oblivion again. its a sweet game and im sucked back in.

The Ps1 and N64 are good, but not all games work and there is several settings, in both the emulators you can save settings per game so once you get it perfect then you don't need to worry about it again. So not perfect but I have got most of the games worth playing running.

Not sure on running windows, probably not impossible, I know people do run linux on them.

As said its great value and if you already have an xbox sitting about then you don't have too much to lose.

Whats the biggest harddrive they can handle? Might build one for my gf whos at uni, always wanting programs on dvds.. lots of dvds (i did her 50) :( :lol:

I believe there is people with 500GB hard drives, the main problem is partitions, I don't think it could all be classed as one partition as such but could all be used.

I liked GTA3. Vice city was ok but for some reason it hurt my eyes to play a little. It just gets boring after a while.

I remember when Driver came out. That game was amazing! And Driver 2 was just insane. Then it got boring.

Just popped to a couple of local 24hour Tesco's on the off chance that i could get the game.....................

Pulled in and drove straight out again after seeing 50+ people waiting for there games.

I think I'll wait :)

My mate has had it for a week now but paid £100 for his copy, total madness :shock:
