Hi all,

I bought myself a mk3 Fiesta Classic 1.1 3 door about 2 months back with the sole use of turning it into a track car. I've stripped it all out inside and I'm in the process of getting the engine ready for removal.

At the weekend I picked up an SI 1.6 engine complete with gearbox, drive shafts, loom, ECU, petrol tank and various other bits.

The trouble is I don't really know where to go from here, I really need someone who knows how to do the conversion for advice or do any of you guys know if there is anything on this forum about the conversion?

I could really do with the help!

sorry to say i dont no anything specific about 1.1 to 1.6 conversion but would think the first thing to over come is getting the engine in the bay and look at engine mounting positions to see if its just a bolt in job in a mk3, did the 1.6 come with all the engine and gearbox mounts?

I think the mounts are with the engine, I'll have to take a look next time I'm at the garage.

I might even be in luck as my Fiesta is an N reg and it has the flap fuel cap and came with an airbag and I've read that it might mean I have the mk3.5 chassis like the SI where the engine came out of.

Can anyone confirm this?

Its sound like you do have a Mk3.5 like the Si.

The first job would be to but the full si wiring loom in, then engine mounts and engine.

yeah thats a later generation shell. 110% definately! shape of the floor is the give away. (i know im sad!). okay. youll need the loom from the ecu. not as bad as it sounds trust me. and the loom that plugs into the car side of things. grey or black multi pin plug about halfway along the bulkhead. probs behind the bulkhead platey thing. rear mount will pick up in the existing postion no probs. as will the gearbox. the front mount will be a bit more of an issue as the captive nuts are not welded into the chassis on anything other than a zetec iirc. not the end of the world. youll also need the rad. coolant pipes. exhaust...all of it. your car also wont have roll bars unike an si. front involves changing wishbone carriers for ones with mounts on. same goes for rear beam. the mounts may be on yours but i doubt it. my 1.3 daily has shit all on it.

to run pas youll need the rack and oil cooler. if you want to bin the pas. youll need a later 16v xr2i engine mount. as these didnt have pas.

its not a difficult conversion by any means. makes it easier to have the funked car next to yours to rip bits off that are different then get the remains scrapped...along with all the surplus junk from the other car.

HTH

Cheers guys I really appreciate the help.

So I need the drive belt off a XR2i 16V, thats useful to know as I wanted to ditch the power steering pump.

I think my plan will be to compare the 2 looms (1.1 & 1.6) then mark up on the 1.6 loom where in the car it needs to go, stick it in the car, then attempt to put the engine in. Once in, I could mark where the front mount needs to go, remove the engine, then weld the mount in place.

What do you think?

to run the 16v 2i belt youll need the 16v 2i bracket as the alt is mounted in a different position...

as for the mount you can see where it has to mount. theres hexagon shaped holes in the drivers side chassis leg. it should sit centrally on those. however. rather than weld it. id reccomend steel blind nuts or squeezie nuts as it will make it removable should you need to change the mount bush. if you have threaded holes there. your in luck.

Thanks Jam.

I'll have a gander and see what I have. I best put a Wanted add for an alternator bracket!
